دبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة (CNN)-- ناقش وزير الخارجية الأمريكي، مايك بومبيو، مع نظيره التركي، تشاووش أوغلو، التوتر القائم في منطقة شرق البحر المتوسط والوضع في ليبيا.

وقال بومبيو، تعليقا على صورة نشرها في حسابه على تويتر، إنه ناقش مع أوغلو في "محادثة آنية في سانتو دومينغو (عاصمة جمهورية الدومينكان) الحاجة الملحة للحد من التوترات في شرق البحر الأبيض المتوسط".

ومن جانبه، أضاف أوغلو إلى أنه ناقش مع بومبيو قضايا مهمة، مثل الوضع في شرق المتوسط وليبيا وسوريا.

وأوضح أوغلو: "سنواصل الدفاع عن حقوق تركيا والقبارصة الأتراك ضد الخطوات الاستفزازية للجانب القبرصي واليوناني".

يأتي هذا في وقت أعلن وزير الخارجية اليوناني، نيكوس دندياس، أنه أجرى اتصالا هاتفيًا مع نظيره الإماراتي الشيخ عبدالله بن زايد، الأحد.ش

وأشار دندياس إلى أن النشاط التركي "غير القانوني" في شرق المتوسط كان في بؤرة الحديث بينهما.

وتشهد منطقة شرق المتوسط حالة من التوتر بين اليونان وقبرص من ناحية وتركيا من الجانب الآخر، بعد نشر أنقرة سفن تنقيب عن النفط والغاز في مناطق بحرية تقول أثينا ولارنكا إنها تابعة لهما.
