(CNN)-- حلَقت قاذفات B-52 الأمريكية ذات القدرة النووية فوق منطقة الشرق الأوسط، الأحد، وهي المهمة الثانية من نوعها في يناير كانون الثاني، والخامسة في الأشهر القليلة الماضية.

وقال قائد القيادة المركزية الأمريكية الجنرال فرانك ماكنزي، في بيان، إن الرحلات الجوية تظهر التزام الجيش بالأمن الإقليمي، وأنها "تنقل رسالة واضحة ومتسقة في بيئة العمليات إلى كل من الأصدقاء والأعداء المحتملين، على حد سواء".

كما وصفها ماكنزي بأنها "جزء من موقفنا الدفاعي في المنطقة".

وتعد قاذفة B-52H "Stratofortress" قاذفة ثقيلة طويلة المدى يمكنها أداء مجموعة متنوعة من المهام. ويمكنها الطيران بسرعات عالية دون سرعة الصوت على ارتفاعات تصل إلى 50 ألف قدم. ولديها نطاق قتال غير مزود بالوقود يزيد عن 8800 ميل. إضافة إلى قدرتها على على حمل الذخيرة الموجهة بدقة مع التنقل الدقيق في جميع أنحاء العالم.

وكانت آخر مهمة لقاذفاتB-52  في الشرق الأوسط في 7 يناير كانون الثاني.

وأظهرت صورة قدمها الجيش الأمريكي لحظة تزويد القاذفة بالوقود في الجو في مكان لم يكشف عنه.

ويأتي تحليق القاذفات الأمريكية بعد وقت قصير من مناورات عسكرية أجرتها إيران، واختبرت خلالها صواريخ بعيدة المدى وطائرات مسيرة.
