دبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة (CNN)— قال محمد عودة، مدير مركز الفلك الدولي، إنه وفي حدث فلكي نادر سيمر مذنبان، يعتقد أنهما توأمان بالقرب من الأرض يومي الإثنين والثلاثاء 21 و22 مارس/ آذار، لافتا إلى أن ما يميز مرور المذنب الثاني يوم الثلاثاء هو أنه ثاني أقرب عبور لمذنب بالقرب من الأرض في التاريخ المدون! فهو أقرب مرور لمذنب بالقرب من الأرض منذ 246 سنة!

وتابع عودة في بيان وصل لموقع CNN بالعربية نسخة منه: "اكتشف المذنب الأول في السابع من أبريل العام 2000 من قبل فريق لينيار في الولايات المتحدة، وهو برنامج مخصص لاكتشاف المذنبات والكويكبات، ويبلغ قطر المذنب حوالي 230 مترا. أما المذنب الثاني فقد اكتشف يوم 22 يناير 2016 بواسطة فريق بان ستارز في الولايات المتحدة، ويبلغ قطر المذنب حوالي 100 متر."

وأضاف: "سيمر المذنب لينيار بالقرب من الأرض يوم الإثنين 21 مارس في الساعة 12:14 ظهرا بتوقيت غرينتش، وسيكون على مسافة 5.2 مليون كيلومترا، وسيمر المذنب بان ستار بالقرب من الأرض يوم الثلاثاء 22 مارس في الساعة الرابعة عصرا بتوقيت غرينتش وسيكون على بعد 3.4 مليون كيلومترا. وهذه الأرقام قريبة جدا، خاصة إذا علمنا أن بعد الأرض عن الشمس مثلا هو 150 مليون كيلومترا، وبعد القمر عن الأرض هو حوالي نصف مليون كيلومتر."
