هافانا، كوبا (CNN)-- عيّنت كوبا رئيساً جديداً، الخميس، بعد يوم من إجراء اقتراع سري في المجلس الوطني للبلاد.

واختار المجلس ميغيل دياز-كانيل رسمياً ليصبح القائد الجديد للبلاد، وهي المرة الأولى خلال ستة عقود، تحظى بها البلاد على قائد لا يتضمن اسمه كلمة "كاسترو".

واختير دياز-كانيل، 57 عاماً بتصويت 603 مقابل واحد، ليستبدل راؤول كاسترو، 86 عاماً، والذي لم يكن مولوداً بعد إعلان فيدل كاسترو ثورته عام 1959، وقد تبنى راؤول المرشح دياز-كانيل ليصبح رئيس المجلس الكوبي ورئي مجلس الوزراء.

لكن الرئيس الكوبي الجديد ذكر بأن راؤول كاسترو سيستمر بقيادة "العملية الثورية" في البلاد، خلال خطاب له أمام المجلس الوطني الكوبي، وأنه سيكون "الوزير الأول للحزب الشيوعي لكوبا وأنه سيقود القرارات المصيرية المتعلقة بحاضر البلاد ومستقبلها."
